I can relate to your journey and appreciate you articulating so much of it in this post. The hardest part for me is how intelligent, thoughtful people around me squirm when I bring up this topic.
These are people who I know would not be thrilled if their kids caught the social contagion, but who look at me like I am the crazy person when I say things like 'sex is binary and immutable.' It's as if naming these facts is equivalent to saying that pizzagate is really a thing.
It's as if I am being radicalized by common sense or something. What a nutty time this is.
I'm not sure if there are many topics for which I think the idea that "silence is violence" reflects reality, this is one of them. This is being imposed top down and it is cowardice to not address it. It's largely using children as a shield against social exclusion. And we are not far from people having to explain supporting the sterilization of children or explaining their apathy that it's happening.
I hope that you are right that we are not too far from this sea change. It can't come fast enough.
It will be interesting to see how the conversations will go and whether, as you say, we'll be able to trust/respect the folks who have been MIA or parroting the empty talking points.
